What do the Terms CIF, 2CIF, 4CIF, Half D1, and D1 Mean?
In the camera security world, these terms are used to represent specific resolution ranges DVRs will record at. They are used to represent a certain pixel x pixel resolution. The resolutions defined below are approximate; vendors may choose to adjust to the nearest resolution values:

CIF 352 x 280
2CIF/Half D1 640 x 240
4CIF/D1 640 x 480
704 x 480
The following values are not commonly used in security camera listings yet, as analog camersa do not support these resolutions. However, as more cameras reach and exceed the 1 million pixel mark(also know as MegaPixel), more companies may begin listing resolutions under these terms.
SVGA 800 x 600
XGA 1024 x 768
SXGA 1280 x 1024
WSXGA 1600 x 1050
QXGA 2048 x 1536
WQXGA 2560 x 1600
